FOSE-UK Christmas Message 2024

Dear Friends of Scouting Europe,

May I thank you for your continued support and donations to the European Scout Foundation.

The highlight of our year must be the Reception at this year’s Gilwell Reunion in the White House, where we were honoured by the presence of five members of the Baden-Powell family, including David Lord Baden-Powell.

We have been very successful with our donations of around £15,000 through the Eric Frank Trust.

Sadly, no new Friends have joined and we have lost several of those who served Scouting in many ways during their active Scouting days. So, let us ask our Friends, those who have benefitted and enjoyed Scouting, maybe through an international experience or two, to support the strengthening of scouting all over Europe, but particularly where it is not so strong.

The Board of the European Scout Foundation have been experimenting on ways to encourage growth of those who wish to join the Friends of Scouting, by becoming a donor. Recently they have held their Board Meetings in Belgium and a year later, in Ireland at Malahide. We have been fortunate in recent years to have a representative of the Board at our receptions at Gilwell Park.

You should all receive directly the latest news of the way grants are assisting projects. You may also visit the website europeanscoutfoundation.com

May we congratulate two of our Friends with their new roles – the first, Callum Kaye, former International Commissioner, elected a member of the World Scout Committee of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement, Rob Murray on his appointment as the new Chief Volunteer for International. We wish them both well and thank Callum for his support for FOSE and our relationships formally with UK Scouts. We will seek to develop our relationship with Rob.

Finally, please note that the annual donation to FOSE increases in the new year from €150 to €200.

May I wish you all an enjoyable festive season and look forward to your continued support in the New Year.
