FOSE Friends News

As we are unable to meet in person, please join us and afterwards renew your annual subscription to FOSE. Details for payment were on the Invoice friends received earlier this year or on our website.

Earlier this year we were pleased to welcome a new life friend Graham Haddock, but as yet no new annual subscription friends.

FOSE Superfriends meeting

In January I had the pleasure of visiting Kandersteg World Scout Centre in Switzerland for a meeting of FOSE Superfriend at the same time of the European Scout Committee. I was able to report on the support that FOSE – UK gives to the European Scout Foundation and number of friends who joined in 2019.

We received details of the preparations for the 50th anniversary of the formation of the European Scout Region and 30th anniversary of the European Scout Foundation. Sadly Covid-19 has changed our lives totally since March, with all events and meetings being cancelled. These included the European Scout Jamboree in Poland postponed to 2021, so has the planned FOSE reception on 3 August 2020 at this event. Together with the annual FOSE Country Visit to Slovakia scheduled for 1-4 Oct 2020 has also been cancelled.

To brighten up the situation, we some positive news from supported projects funded through grants from the European Scout Foundation.

Details can be found on at www.europeanscoutfoundation.com

Thank you for your ongoing support to Scouting in Europe in these exceptional times.

Membership Renewal

We received a letter to all friends in Europe from our treasurer Walter Hostetler to remind them about their annual subscription.

I hope you are healthy, and the current Corona crisis does not affect you too much. The past weeks and months have demanded flexibility, patience, but also discipline from all of us in keeping to the set rules. And we must assume that the near future will also be strongly influenced by the effects of Corona. I wish you not only good health, but also optimism and confidence.

Flexibility, patience, discipline, respecting the rules, optimism and confidence: all qualities that most of us were able to learn and practice in Scouting.

In my immediate surroundings I have seen how Scouts have spontaneously taken on many tasks and supported people during this time. Simple things, like taking care of the shopping for particularly vulnerable people or looking after children who can’t go to school anymore while their parents have to work.

At the same time, we have received news from scout associations, especially from Central and Eastern Europe, who are unable to meet their financial obligations due to the current situation, because the little income they are able to earn in normal times has now also been lost.

All this strengthens our conviction that, despite or perhaps because of the current situation, we will ask you for this year’s donation of 150 Euro (75 Euro for FOSE younger than 30 years).

As Friend of Scouting in Europe. With your support you enable us to support scouts especially in Central and Eastern Europe. I would like to point out that it is possible to become a Life Friend of Scouting in Europe with a one-time donation of 2000 Euro.
